Christians Against Poverty

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a national debt counselling charity with a network of debt centres based in local churches. CAP offers hope and a solution to people in debt through its top quality, in-depth service.

The King’s Church has partnered with seven other local churches and CAP to offer debt counselling in our community. The service we offer is completely free.

Call 0800 328 0006 to book an appointment with Didcot and Wallingford Area CAP Debt Centre.
Visit www.capdebthelp.org to find out more about our services.

Within The King’s Church the HOPE Missional Community in particular supports the work of the CAP Debt Centre.

CAP’s service: an overview

If you need help with debt, CAP offer a brilliant debt management service that has helped thousands of people go debt free. Once you  contact CAP on the freephone number (0800 328 0006) they will  arrange an initial appointment with one of our local CAP Debt Coaches, Sue and Melanie.

Fact-finding:

One of our Debt Coaches will visit you, normally in your home. They will introduce the service and ask you about your income, bills and debts. This information will be used to create a budget for you.

Additional visits: explaining the budget

One of our Debt Coaches will need to visit you again to explain how you will need to stick to the budget to get out of debt.

Continuous support:

The next step is for CAP to contact your secondary creditors, such as credit card and loan companies. CAP will support you until you become debt free and all we ask you to do is to work positively with us through this process. The King's Church or one of the other CAP partner churches will match you up with a CAP befriender, a local person to walk through the sometimes long process of finding freedom with you.
